The question of “Who is Jesus?” is the most important question each of us must answer. It forms the foundation of who we are as Campus Crusade for Christ International. It is at the center of why this organization exists: to know Him and make Him known.

Jesus of Nazareth is not merely a historical figure, a moral teacher, or a religious leader among many. He stands at the center of history. Billions have shaped their lives around Him. Entire cultures have been influenced by His words. But admiration alone is not enough. The real question is not whether Jesus was influential — it is who He truly is.

Jesus made statements that went far beyond the claims of a prophet or teacher. He said:

  • “I am the way and the truth and the life.”
  • “I and the Father are one.”
  • “Before Abraham was born, I am.”

Those who heard Him understood what He was claiming. They accused Him of blasphemy because they believed He was making Himself equal with God.

If Jesus did not claim to be God, these reactions would make little sense. But if He did claim divinity, then we must decide what to do with that claim.

Liar, Lunatic, or Lord?

Writers such as C.S. Lewis summarized the options clearly:

If Jesus claimed to be God, then either:

  • He was lying.
  • He was delusional.
  • Or He was telling the truth.

Calling Him simply a “great moral teacher” avoids the tension of His own words. A merely human teacher who falsely claimed to be God would not be morally great. The claim forces a response.

His Life and Works

Jesus’ life reflected extraordinary authority and compassion.

He healed the sick.
He gave sight to the blind.
He calmed storms.
He forgave sins.
He welcomed the outcast.
He challenged injustice.

He did not live like a power-seeking ruler. He lived like a servant — yet with authority that astonished those around Him.

His Death and Resurrection

Jesus predicted His own suffering and death. He was publicly crucified under Roman authority. He was buried. And on the third day, the tomb was empty.

His followers, who had scattered in fear at His arrest, became bold witnesses proclaiming that He had risen from the dead. Many suffered and died for that testimony.

The resurrection is central to the Christian faith. If Jesus rose from the dead, it validates His identity and His claims.

Fulfilled Promise

Centuries before His birth, the Hebrew Scriptures spoke of a coming Messiah — one who would be born in Bethlehem, bring hope to the nations, suffer on behalf of others, and ultimately defeat death. Christians believe Jesus fulfilled these promises in remarkable detail.

How Can Jesus Be God and the Son of God?

Christians believe in one God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This doctrine — known as the Trinity — teaches that Jesus is fully God and fully human. He is not a created being or a lesser deity. He is God incarnate — God with us.

Why This Matters

If Jesus is who He claimed to be, then He is not simply a figure to admire — He is Lord.

The Bible teaches that all people fall short of God’s standard and need forgiveness and restoration. Jesus lived the perfect life we could not live and gave His life so we could be reconciled to God. His resurrection offers hope beyond death and life that begins now.

This is why we exist as Campus Crusade for Christ International.

To know Him personally.
To grow in relationship with Him.
And to help others know Him too.
